State Response & Rescue Efforts
Governor Ron DeSantis and state agencies have mobilized to respond to Hurricane Milton’s landfall as a Category 3 hurricane in Sarasota County. The Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) and the Florida National Guard are coordinating over 2,200 missions, focusing on search and rescue, providing humanitarian aid, and protecting critical infrastructure. Over 6,500 National Guard members, 500 high-wheeled vehicles, and multiple aircraft have been deployed for immediate recovery efforts. More than 80,000 residents are currently in shelters, and relief supplies, such as water, food, and tarps, have been distributed across the state.
- As of today, October 10, nearly 300 shelters are open, supporting over 80,000 Florida residents impacted by Hurricane Milton’s landfall.
- FDEM has facilitated the distribution of the following items to counties across the state prior to landfall for Hurricane Milton:
- 1,253,232 liters of water
- 672,948 shelf stable meals
- 62,108 tarps kits
